staying focused on body goals during negativity and stress
"Thoughts become things. If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand."
Staying on track with exercise and eating that gets you to that ultimate goal is the 1 thing clients, family and friends struggle with most. So it's not access to the right workout or the best foods or finding the time, equipment and space that are the issue. It's being consistent enough even when negativity and stress strikes long enough to get the results you desire.
The trick to staying focused on goals that get you the body and life you want regardless of all the stress and distractions that life presents to you daily is to get as clear as possible about what you want. Not why you want it which is something I've written about often but WHAT you want.
What kind of body do you see yourself having, what kind of things do you see your body being able to do, where do you see your body going and how do you see your body moving when you get there. It may sound silly to imagine a whole other existence that you are not familiar with yet but being able to picture how you'll look and what you'll be doing when you look that way is what keeps your motivation and your resistance to distractions strong.
It's a simple visualization trick that is used by athletes, performers of all types, writers, motivational expert, even scientists and especially spiritual people. I learned about performance visualization over 20 years ago in my sports psychology course my senior year in college. In fact I was given the opportunity to put it into practice with a singer/actor that I worked with at a part time theatre job.
The science behind visualization is
as simple as the quote by the famous motivational speaker and writer Bob Proctor "Thoughts become things. If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand."
I can tell you from my personal experience this past year and a half pictured above that it works because that is exactly what I did in order to create 13 acts and perform in 15 shows on 4 very different stages which is something I've dreamed of my entire life.
Visualizing exactly what you want and how you will have it is even more important when stress and negativity is spiraling out of control as it was last week after Trump won the election. So many people (specifically women and minorities like myself) were in a negative fearful anxious panic and they kept attempting to pull others into their dark despair.
If you are not clear about what your focus is on it can be easy to abandon your healthy habits and join the fear mongers in their darkness but when you have crystal clear focus staying on track is easy and even becomes like a quest to prove that you can have what you want no matter what is going on.
I've not felt as motivated about work, fitness, creating new acts and writing than the day after Trump was elected so while many minority female writer/artists like me where crying and carrying on like big babies and self medicating with bad habits I got fired up as hell to be even better than I was last year and to prove that I will not be stopped ever!
