If this gold dress is wrong for my body type then I don't want to be right!!! Arrest me fashion police but please use sequin handcuffs that match my dress. click pics for more captions In the pic are my burlesque sisters Rita La Rouge & Millie Bayardall who also don't care what the fashion police has to say about dressing right for your body type My mentor suggested we all go down to Nordstrom Rack and try the peach dress. Her boobs were too big for it. Obviously mine were too small hahaha.

There are countless rules and tips online about how to dress right for your body type and while some of this body shape clothing advice is helpful it's not always correct or the law which means that all you really need is these 3 basic tips to looking your best in a dress, bikini, jeans, skirt, shorts, top etc.

Best dress right for your body type tip 1: If it makes you feel great wear it! As you can see in the pic above the gold dress I recently wore to the 10 year anniversary burlesque show at the bar where we perform is a halter dress. Now according to the fashion police somebody with a body like mine should not wear a halter dress because it widens the shoulders and does nothing to add curves to my straight body type.

According to the body type clothing "experts" I should wear a dress that cinches the waist and ads volume to the hips and chest like the 2nd dress pictured above which I've worn several times to sit in the audience after performing. Now I love both dresses but the one that's "right" for my body isn't the one I feel sexiest in because it doesn't highlight my natural ruler body assets.

So tip #1 if you're struggling to find a "sexy dress" is to try on ALL the dress styles until you find one that makes you feel amazing. You'll know when you find it just like I knew after trying on dozens of dresses before I found the gold one that makes me feel super sexy.

Best dress right for your body type tip #2: Dress for the feeling you want. As you can see in pic #2 I'm wearing my sideshow ladies dress which according to the experts is perfect for a body type like mine that needs to create the illusion of a waist and more volume in the hips and bust. The funny thing about this dress is that I bought it because I love the print and also because it's super easy to get on and comfortable to wear in the audience after performing. I don't particularly feel super sexy or shapely in it but that isn't my goal!

So tip #2 is dress for the feel you want. Not every dress has to make you feel drop dead gorgeous because that's not always what you're after. Some dresses or clothes just look cute on and are also super comfortable and even when they ARE the right style for your body type they don't make you feel like some hot voluptuous vixen so who cares! Life isn't always about that.

Best dress right for your body type tip #3: Dress to showoff your whole self more than to showoff just your body parts. Ever see those women who always dress to show off their chest cleavage or perfect butts or ripped abs or super toned arms or legs. ALWAYS the same style of dress that emphasize their best body parts. There's nothing wrong with this if you do it sparingly but when you do it all the time it looks like a desperate cry for attention and reveals a true sign of serious insecurity and lack of true confidence in who you are as a woman.

Most of us are so much more than just body parts. We are intelligent and funny and creative and sincere and giving and loyal. If you only ever dress to show off your tits&ass then nobody is ever going to 1: take you seriously as a woman with a brain 2: bother getting to the rest of what makes you awesome.

So tip #3 is dress as much for your whole self as you do for your body parts which will become less and less important as you reach your 60s 80s and 100s! There really is "more to life than just being really really really ridiculously good looking"
